Alta is known as the town of the Northern Lights. It is located in the western part of Finnmark, Norway's northernmost county. Alta is also home of the Alta Rock Carvings. This is an impressive collection of stone age art depicting reindeer, halibut and humans in hunting and fishing scenes from prehistoric times.

    Wealth Beneath the Surface
The climate in Alta is rough. It is almost impossible to grow anything there. Its real wealth is to be found beneath the surface of the sea, where there is an abundance of fish like cod, salmon and, a specialty of the area, the royal white halibut.

    Fishing with the Local Fishermen
Andreas takes you out fishing for halibut with some of the local fishermen. You will see how he catches this royal fish, and how he prepares it on an outdoor fire.

    The Menu
Fish dominates the menu of this episode. The starter is Cod Carpaccio, made just ten minutes after the fish is taken out of the sea. The main course is made from the 20-pound royal white halibut that Andreas has just caught. Halibut with Herbs and Rosemary-Lemon Butter is cooked on heated stones covered with seaweed and then unwrapped to reveal a succulent and fragrant dish fit for a king. To finish off this satisfying fish meal, Andreas whips up some arctic Cloudberry Cream with Rosemary and Vanilla for dessert. The cloudberry is a unique berry found exclusively in the northern regions of the world.
