Sara La Fountain was born in Santa Barbara, California, but spent most of her childhood in Finland. While studying at New York’s Culinary Institute of America, she was inspired by the melting pot of cultural and food fusion. Sara’s fun, experimental style ties together her grandmother’s Karelian cooking with bold new flavors. She has a passion for modernizing Finnish food, turning traditional classics into today’s trendiest dishes. Because cooking with friends is a time to create memories, Sara introduces the freshest ingredients, tantalizing table settings, and a seasonal touch that really makes the party.

In 2005, MTV3 in Finland aired her 10 part television series, “Avec Sara”, which featured recipes, party ideas and beautiful table settings.

    Food Writer

In 2006, Sara La Fountain’s first cookbook, à la Sara, earned the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award in the “Best First Cookbook” category. In addition to her monthly column in Elle (Finland), Sara has also published several columns, food and lifestyle articles for newspapers and magazines across Scandinavia, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

Her second cookbook, Passion for Food (2010), is a work of multimedia art, featuring Sara’s spin on international and classical recipes for everyday life, along with some recipes to pull out on special occasions. Passion for Food was awarded the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for “4th Best Cookbook Design in the World”.

Sara’s newest project is an organic cookbook featuring a collection of healthy meals that promote a balanced body and mind. The book also features raw, vegan, and superfood recipes alongside potions for making your own healthy body scrubs, soaps, and other cosmetic products.

    Designer and Hostess

Sara has designed table linens, aprons, and a full line of glasses and table settings in the “à la Sara” signature line of dinnerware for Luhta Home.

Her 10 part cooking series “Perfect Day” aired on APT (American Public Television) and MTV3 in Finland in 2008, where she presented food culture from Finland’s unique regions, tied in with Finnish traditions, nature and seasonality.

Sara’s newest 10 program television series, “Sara and Meri-Tuli’s Metropolis”, premiered in 2012 and was an instant success. With the world as its playground, the show featured great travel, cooking and lifestyle from Tel Aviv and Manila to New York and Helsinki.

    Sara’s Business

The majority of her time is spent collaborating with different food brands, styling food and developing new products and recipes. She has also created a signature menu for a Scandinavian cruise line. Sara plans menus for restaurants and events, and provides dynamic cooking classes for companies and their private functions. Her latest projects include a new concept for healthy, superfood powder smoothies designed for Leader Natural Foods, a line of signature paninis for Snellman, and a campaign for light recipes using the products of German dairy producer Ehrmann.

Sara modeled regularly from the age of nine years until food won over her heart. Still, you’ll find her in campaigns for different fashion brands. She was the face of the fall 2012 campaign for the well-known Scandinavian fashion company Seppälä. Sara was also voted Best Dressed Female in Finland 2012 by Elle magazine awards.
